Jesus gave a twofold mission to his first disciples. First, they were to take the gospel to every person in every generation. Secondly, they were to teach the people who accepted the message everything Christ had taught them.
The task of the church is simply to continue the work Christ began. Jesus said, “These things I have spoken unto you that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be full” (John 15:11). If we want joy in our lives and in our church we must be ready to obey the commands of our Lord Jesus.
Jesus promised that God would send the Holy Spirit to help the church to do its work (John 14:16). When the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost, the church immediately began to act in obedience to Christ’s commands. The Holy Spirit helps us today in the same way. Teaching about the Holy Spirit and His work is one of our areas of focus. We believe that a spirit-filled Christian is a victorious Christian and Paul says in Romans 8:14, “because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God”.
Many church members believe that their task is to help the pastor with his ministry. However, the Bible says in Ephesians 4:11-12 that it is the pastor’s task to help the church members to do their ministry. The task of the church is to be done by each member. Our mission then, is to prepare the members of this church for the work of witnessing and teaching others. We see this demonstrated clearly in the ministry of the apostle Paul.
God wants us each to be making disciples where we are. However, we need training and guidance to do this task. That is why Faith Family Ministries International has created the education department to help equip its members for the task of reaching out to our community.
